What is Controlled Mechanical Ventilation (CMV) and how does it work?
CMV (Controlled Mechanical Ventilation) is a system that allows to control the air exchange inside a building (private dwelling, commercial building or other) without opening the windows and, therefore, avoiding costly heat losses .
Unhealthy air (excessively moisty, highly-concentrated of polluting particulates, smelly, etc.) is expelled from the building and clean air is introduced through special diffusers.

since, thanks to its structure (made of different materials and shapes), allows heat exchange between inlet and outlet flow streams, without mixing air, thus minimizing the outside temperature influence on the inside one.

Centralized CMV and stand-alone CMV
CMV systems consist in two main categories: centralized and stand-alone CMV systems
Centralized CMV mainly consists of air masses exchange system within the various environments, which moves air from more humid environments to drier ones (and vice versa), obtaining a homogeneous and comfortable climate. This plant type (today widespread in new buildings with high thermal insulation) requires a zone, normally a gap between the roof and the suspended ceiling, exclusively dedicated to pipes reaching all the rooms, and also an area where to place the air flows management electro / mechanical unit (a device equipped with fans, filters and other components).
Centralized CMV system is a very efficient and optimal solution to manage indoor microclimate, although installation (if not carried out during the construction phase) is very laborious and expensive.
Stand-alone systems have been developed for buildings that, in the design phase, have not provided a centralized Controlled Mechanical Ventilation system and they are normally installed on perimeter walls, performing the same function as centralized CMV systems, mixing indoor and outdoor air flows.
Stand-alone CMV latest generations achieve high performance and are equipped with filters, sensors and advanced technologies that create very comfortable environmental conditions. Unlike centralized systems, stand-alone CMVs (regardless of the flow rate) are effective just in single room.
